The Nain Old Bazaar, also known as the Historic Bazaar, was once the bustling commercial heart of Nain, attracting merchants and travelers from across the region.
The bazaar dates back to the Ilkhanid era (13th century) and reached its peak during the Safavid era. Historically, it was a key stop for caravans and travelers, providing essential goods before continuing their journeys. While much of its former activity has faded, the Old Bazaar of Nain remains a testament to the city’s rich trading heritage.
Situated in the historic district, the bazaar stretches over 340 meters with a gracefully curved layout and two intersecting crossroads. Key features include:
170 traditional shops, once the city’s commerce hub
Domed architecture, especially enchanting when illuminated at night
The entrance to a grand caravanserai, a reminder of its vibrant past
Today, only a handful of shops remain active, yet the bazaar retains a serene and charming ambiance. A stroll through its alleys offers visitors a unique glimpse into historic Iranian trade and urban life.
Open daily: Visitors can explore the bazaar at any time, though daytime visits are recommended to fully appreciate the remaining open shops.
