History

With roots reaching back almost 500 years, this garden began as a vital water reservoir, serving the purpose of irrigating the verdant gardens on the western outskirts of Tabriz. It wasn’t until the Safavid era that this reservoir was embraced by nature and transformed into a delightful garden retreat, shaded by an enchanting canopy of trees. The Qajar period brought further enhancements, with the addition of elevated terraces that elevated its grandeur.

Nestled in the southeast of Tabriz, Elgoli Garden, or Shahgoli Garden, unveils a picturesque landscape featuring a serene artificial lake bordered by majestic poplar trees and graceful willows. At the heart of this historical sanctuary lies an artificial lake, an azure gem that stretches over 40,000 square meters and plunges to depths of 9 meters. Fed by a natural spring cascading from the western hillside, the lake has become a home to a myriad of fish species. Today, this octagonal treasure serves as a restaurant, linked to the garden by a charming pathway.
