Description
Baba Taher, a renowned Persian poet and mystic from the 11th century, left behind a treasury of beautiful poems that offer timeless life lessons. The Baba Taher Mausoleum in Hamadan, built during the same era as the Avicenna Mausoleum, holds a unique charm. Its architectural elegance and simplicity captivate every visitor.
Approaching this captivating memorial, one ascends a set of steps on a hill, embarking on a unique journey through Persian culture. The mausoleum boasts a magnificent turquoise dome crowning an octagonal structure, encircled by eight pillars sculpted from granite with intricate carvings. These pillars, along with the dome and the interior decor, point skyward, symbolizing the divine realm, as Baba Taher lived a life steeped in mysticism.
Beneath this octagonal structure rests the tomb of the poet, surrounded by an interior adorned with 24 marble pieces, intricately inscribed with Persian calligraphy showcasing his poems and adorned with stunning tile work—a testament to Persian decorative arts.
Furthermore, this complex serves as the final resting place for other Persian writers, adding to its literary significance. Within its grounds lies the Hamadan Handcraft Museum, which proudly displays a precious collection of traditional and locally crafted handicrafts.
