Dating back to the illustrious Qajar era of the late 19th century, the Tabatabaei House stands as a testament to timeless beauty and opulence. Constructed over a decade, it was the cherished abode of the affluent Tabatabaei family. Notably, the architect responsible for this creation also designed the renowned Boroujedi House and Amin al-Dowleh Timche, situated within Kashan’s Traditional Bazar.

Embodying the pinnacle of Persian architectural artistry, Tabatabaei House in Kashan captivates every beholder with its intricate ornaments, captivating reliefs, mesmerizing paintings, and masterful mirror and glass work. Encompassing an expansive 4730 square meters, this complex boasts four enchanting courtyards, 40 exquisitely adorned rooms, three traditional windcatchers, four subterranean cellars, and two intricate qanats. Each courtyard serves a distinct purpose, with one gracing the public sphere, two reserved for the family’s private quarters, and the last dedicated to the diligent servants.
The central courtyard, a harmonious blend of art and nature, features a tranquil pond surrounded by a majestic pool and dancing fountains. This cooling oasis plays host to rooms adorned with seven ornate windows, symbolizing the esteemed social stature of the owner. A symphony of stained-glass windows, captivating paintings, and delicate plasterwork adorn the grand hall at the courtyard’s heart, flanked by cozy chambers on either side.
The family’s intimate sanctuaries reside within the two secluded courtyards, characterized by their five-windowed chambers and understated elegance. These spaces exude simplicity, providing respite from the summer’s warmth through strategically designed cellars and windcatchers. The grandest cellar, nestled 8 to 10 meters beneath the earth’s surface, boasts a dual-layered construction, a windcatcher, and a central pool, ensuring refreshing respite during Kashan’s scorching summers.
