Vakil Bazaar

It’s one of the most famous traditional and historical markets in Iran and is considered one of the must-see places in Shiraz. It also has some different parts like the Vakil bath and Vakil mosque. This bazaar was built by the order of Karim Khan Zand, and now it’s one of the historical places in Shiraz.

History

Vakil Bazaar was like the heart of Shiraz during the Zand dynasty, and the main entrance on the north and south of this market is on Zand Street and the east side of Shahrdari Square, and there are other entrances on Taleghani and Lotf Ali Khan Streets.

Architecture

It seems that when Karim Khan Zand went to Lar, after seeing Qaysari Bazaar, he decided to build a bazaar similar to it in Shiraz to create a place for commerce in this city. It took 21 years to build this bazaar. The bazaar building is made of plaster, brick, lime, and carved stone columns making it a strong marketplace. They had placed vents and apertures called “Jamkhaeh” and “Hornur” under the roof, which provided enough light and air to the market. Now these vents are closed and above the shops, there are hatches for air conditioning and lighting.

Shops

The most prominent products in this bazaar are all kinds of Iranian handwoven and machine-woven carpets, cloth, and traditional ornaments. Most of the sellers are carpet sellers and fabric sellers. Saraye Moshir is also a part of the bazaar that shouldn’t be missed. You can buy all kinds of handicrafts and traditional Iranian ornaments with high quality.

Visiting Hour
