Description

Located 120 kilometers south of Zanjan, Katale Khor Cave is an expansive and breathtaking underground expanse, believed to eventually connect with the renowned Ali Sadr Cave. While the first 3 kilometers of Katale Khor Cave are accessible to the general public, an additional 4 kilometers remain a realm for experienced cavers. Katale Khor Cave boasts a remarkable geological structure. Over millions of years, layers have formed, intertwining with ancient fossils and pure limestone to create a mesmerizing subterranean landscape. Visitors are treated to a spectacle of stalactites and stalagmites, each taking on unique, captivating forms. Some areas within the cave showcase these formations joining together to create colossal limestone columns. Beyond their aesthetic appeal, these columns play a vital role in supporting the cave’s roof, preventing it from collapsing.

The entrance to the cave is a narrow passage shrouded in ash. As one progresses deeper, the true splendor of Katale Khor Cave begins to reveal itself. The initial 100 meters of the cave once provided shelter for early humans, and their skeletal remains still linger in this ancient refuge.
