Darband

Darband, located in the north of the capital, was once a village in Shemiran before becoming a part of Tehran. If you enjoy mountaineering, consider climbing the Alborz Mountains, particularly Tochal Peak, in Darband. The area is also home to several other attractions, including the Darband cable car, stunning natural scenery, and numerous cafes and restaurants. Darband boasts several old neighborhoods, such as Mugh-Mohalleh, Kalagpar, Kanar Mohlah, and Sarband.

History

Local history states that Taleqan locals migrated to this area and established the Darband community, which boasts a prime location that attracted the wealthy and royalty to build private villas. This village has a history of 200 years, and it’s interesting to note that Reza Shah commissioned the construction of a guest house and villas on Darband lands. The guest house, later renamed Diplomat Hotel, became Iran’s first official residence for hosting both local and foreign dignitaries. Additionally, the village is home to a municipal building, city police department, post office, and power station.

The Climber Statue

Darband has a 3-meter-tall climber statue in Sarband that honors an officer who rescued foreign climbers when their plane crashed in the northern Mountains of Tehran 50 years ago.

There are some other fascinating attractions in Darband, including the chairlift and the twin waterfalls. The chairlift has been a popular activity in the area for approximately 50 years, adding to the excitement of the region.
